in addition to being a prominent Chilean poet, Pablo Neruda was a man of picturesque tastes and extravagant customs. He had three properties that stand out in his personal heritage and as a good Chilean, one of them had to have a special dedication to his "last love". This house is located in the Bellavista neighborhood in the Providencia commune in Santiago de Chile. It was built by the Catalan architect Germán Rodríguez Arias. Nowadays, it is a museum that houses the author's collections and is the headquarters of the Pablo Neruda Foundation. It was declared a National Monument in 1990. In La Chascona the poet spent his last days with his wife Matilde Urrutia. The name of the house is in honor of the thick red hair of his wife. The poet passed away on September 26, 1973, his remains had wake in his beloved house "La Chascona" For this reason Matilde rebuilt and repaired the property, to rescue her husband's precious legacy. She lived in "La Chascona" until her death in January 1985, in the same house. After that, the poet's love nest became one of the most visited tourist attractions by foreigners and schools in our country.
